A Special Place for Healing

Nestled in the Alleghany Mountains of Western Virginia, Kissito Healthcare Hot Springs provides a special place for people with Alzheimer’s and similar forms of dementia. From the dramatic mountain views outside to the warm, nurturing atmosphere inside our secured facility, we offer a unique and gentle approach to dementia care.

As a small, intimate facility with close ties to the community, we are part of a healing tradition that began with the area’s hot springs, a tradition that emphasizes deeply personal and natural ways of soothing the body and spirit.

We are a 60-bed secured facility offering memory care for residents with Alzheimer’s or dementia, and rehabilitative services for residents who need post hospitalization care and with moderate to complex medical conditions.

We are part of Kissito Healthcare, a leading not-for-profit provider of innovative post acute rehabilitative and long term  healthcare services. Our growing family includes post acute facilities across the U.S.

Our Philosophy of Care

Our unique Collaborative Patient Care Pathway™ treats each resident as an individual. Interdisciplinary teams of physicians, nurse practitioners, licensed nurses and therapists work closely with residents and their families to develop personalized care plans based on their special needs, preferences and life experiences.

Memory Care

For those with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, we offer specialized care designed to provide a calming, relaxing experience. Our programs blend nursing care with proven meaningful activities such as:

• Soothing music
• Aromatherapy
• Tactile stimulation
• Wind chimes and sounds of nature
• Pleasure foods

Rehabilitative Care

When patients are discharged from the hospital, our goal is to produce smoother care transitions and improved outcomes. We rigorously “track and trend” the progress of each resident to ensure the best care in a setting that includes:

• Semi-private rooms
• Rehabilitation gym
• Physical, occupational and speech therapy
• Innovative activities and programs

Our Care Environment

We believe our small size and special approach to care create a warm, nurturing environment. Our nurse manager and certified nursing assistants work exclusively with Alzheimer’s residents, providing consistency of care and building trust.

As part of our emphasis on individualized care, we use a special activity program for Alzheimer’s residents called “Namaste” that acknowledges the person first, not the disease. We encourage families to participate in this and other activities with residents.

We also have a post acute component to meet the needs of short term residents providing quality skilled nursing services and quality physical, occupational, and speech therapy services.
